Alexza Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq: ALXA) announced that it has completed its target patient enrollment in its Phase 2a proof-of-concept clinical trial with AZ-104 (Staccato(R) loxapine) in patients with migraine headache. A new long-term study into migraine prevention published in The Lancet Neurology shows that patients who continued with Topamax(R) (topiramate) for migraine prophylaxis for up to a year experienced a sustained reduction in the number of migraine days per month, with significant associated benefits on quality of life measures. People with a severe type of migraine in which one side of the body becomes weak should consider genetic testing, according to research that has found familial genes for this type of migraine in people who did not have family members experiencing the problem. The findings are published in the December 4, 2007, issue of Neurology®, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology. [click link for full article]
