Migraine Triggers

For many migraine sufferers they can often work to prevent the onset of a migraine by avoiding certain triggers; these triggers can be different for each individual. While these triggers do not cause a migraine they often increase the risk of a sufferer having one.

These triggers can be caused by many different things from dietary intake to stress and environmental issues.

If you suffer from migraines it’s a good idea to try to keep track of them so you can perhaps narrow down what may be triggering the attacks.

Some triggers include:

Food/Diet - certain foods (caffeine, nuts, alcohol, some preservatives) and medications etc skipping meals or dehydration.

Light - flickering or bright patterned light, bright lights or glaring screens

Smells - some smells may trigger an attack

Weather - sometimes extreme weather changes can provoke a migraine

Hormones - Estrogen levels, birth control pills and menstrual cycles etc can all affect sufferers

Stress - Anxiety, worry, shock or other high stress situations and by the same token sometimes sudden relaxation may trigger an attack

These are just a few of the more common migraine triggers and may be what is setting of migraine attacks - if you can work on preventing, reducing or avoiding those situations or triggers that you’ve deduced are affecting you, you will go a long way toward preventing your next migraine
